J Calaway

 This is my Story 

I was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa on October 26^th, 1965 to Albert and Beverly Calaway.  My father was minister.  My family moved to Springfield, Missouri when I was sixteen years of age in 1982.  That is where and when I met Vicki (Goss) Calaway and we have been together ever since.  I graduated High School in 1984 and started my undergraduate studies in 1985.  I earned a B.A. in 1988.  We moved to Hammond, Indiana in 1989 and began our adventure that still continues today.  In 1999 I earned a Masters in Biblical Literature and in 2015 a Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership. 

I enjoy playing golf and tennis, running and bike riding.  My hobbies include politics, and triathlons.  We live in Munster, Indiana.  I am the lead pastor of The Gate in Hammond, Indiana.  We have served the Gate for over 32 years.  The Gate is a multi-site, multi-ethnic church with five campuses.  Our church is in both urban/inner-city and suburban areas so we provide a wide range of missional and attractional programming.  Over the past 30 years we have planted four churches and over 20 house churches, started a non-profit company, and started businesses to help people gain jobs and additional sources of revenue.  We have also started a housing development company Keystone communities to provide affordable housing, among other projects.
