Run With The Stars

Aug 13, 2024

Today, we’re exploring a profound quote by Marcus Aurelius: “Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them.” As leaders, this quote challenges us to appreciate the simple joys around us and see ourselves as part of the vast, magnificent universe. It also invites us to inspire those we lead to find beauty and purpose in their own lives.

Marcus Aurelius’ words resonate deeply with many of us, and they align beautifully with biblical teachings. Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” This verse reminds us that the beauty of the stars and the universe is a testament to God’s creation and glory. As leaders, we can draw inspiration from this and encourage our teams to see the divine beauty in their everyday lives.

Reflecting on Personal Beauty

Take a moment to think about the beauty in your own life. It could be the smile of a loved one, the warmth of the sun, or the twinkling stars at night. These moments are precious and remind us of the goodness in the world. By focusing on these small yet significant details, we can cultivate a sense of gratitude and joy. As leaders, we should model this behavior and encourage our teams to do the same.

Practical Ways to Dwell on Beauty

How can we, as leaders, dwell on the beauty of life daily and inspire our teams to do the same? Here are a few practical tips:

  1. Gratitude Journal: Encourage your team to write down three things they’re grateful for each day. This simple practice can shift focus to the positive aspects of life and work.
  2. Nature Walks: Organize team outings to spend time outdoors and appreciate the natural beauty around you. Whether it’s a park, a beach, or a nearby trail, nature has a way of soothing our souls and fostering team bonding.
  3. Mindfulness: Promote mindfulness practices within your team. Encourage everyone to be present in the moment and savor the little things. Mindfulness can help us appreciate the beauty in our everyday experiences and improve overall well-being.

Watching the Stars

In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture. Philippians 4:8 reminds us to focus on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. Watching the stars serves as a metaphor for expanding our vision beyond immediate tasks and challenges.

When we take a step back to observe the vastness of the universe, we gain perspective on our own journeys. As leaders, we can encourage our teams to look up and dream big. Just as God promised Abraham that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars, we too can inspire our teams to envision their potential and the impact they can make.

Running with the Stars

The idea of “running with the stars” symbolizes progress, purpose, and movement. Hebrews 12:1 encourages us to “run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus.” This principle is vital for effective leadership.

As leaders, we must not only set goals but also guide our teams with a sense of purpose. When we align our vision with the aspirations of our team members, we create a shared sense of direction that motivates and empowers them. Imagine a team that sees themselves not just as employees, but as integral parts of a larger mission—running together towards a common goal.

Application

To be the kind of leader people want to follow, we must:

  • embrace the beauty of life
  • encourage a broader vision
  • inspire our teams to pursue their dreams with purpose.

By doing so, we create an environment where individuals feel valued, motivated, and connected to something greater than themselves.

As we move forward in our leadership journeys, let’s commit to making every day count by recognizing the beauty around us, dreaming big, and running together towards our shared goals. Remember, effective leadership is about inspiring others to see the stars and empowering them to run alongside us. Together, we can create a legacy that shines brightly.
